For When You Feel Lost

Hey you guys! I'm coming out of a long relapse right now, and was just helped out a lot by something I wrote earlier for this situation. Thought I would share it in case anyone else can use it...and because I wanted something to post on here! Thanks again for being here.

For When You Feel Lost

First, sit up straight, and take ten deep, slow breaths.
.
.
.
Did you do it? Good.
Now close your eyes, and perform five cycles of metta, reciting internally "May I be well. May I be happy. May I be free from suffering."
.
.
.
Take a moment to see if that feels any different. No pressure.
Now, while you read the rest of this remain aware of your body sensations and position.
Remember that time when you decided to stay here? Reflect on those feelings, and the realization that in order to make this work, in order to make it worth it you would have to buckle down and be disciplined about everyday things. Reflect on the times in your life when you felt organized and active, and how great that felt, even greater than being in love in many ways. Because you felt more ALIVE, and even when feeling pain there's a kind of pleasure in feeling alive.
So right now you're stuck avoiding life for some reason, you feel overwhelmed as you have many times before. It feels impossible to make a move, to change what you're doing, despite whatever lectures and motivational pep-talks, doesn't it? But then reflect on the times when it's felt like that, but you've still made the shift! Gotten out of bed, closed the computer, gotten a glass of water and 30 minutes later were back to living your life. You can ALWAYS do this, no matter how you feel, if you decide to work through the scary first ten seconds, and the slightly more difficult one minute after that. You do this when you have to for some external reason, and you've done it for internal reasons many times, so it's in your power to make this one of those times.
You deserve the life you want, and you have the total ability to get it.
