No Everquest - day 1

I've decided to keep track of my progress here, both for my benefit and to provide some feedback for others.
Honestly, today has not been too bad... yet. I'm still at work, so I don't have free time yet. But I'm not really thinking too much about EQ at the moment. On the other hand, it's not that I'm NOT thinking about Everquest that bothers me... it's that I'm NOT thinking about anything productive either.
For example, I cannot get my mind to focus on reading. And I used to love reading. I read War and Peace when I was 14, and now I cannot focus on a pamphlet. I'm worried that, even though I deleted EQ, I haven't yet thought of what to fill it with.
The other issue is that, now that I've decided to go down this path, I don't want to fill it with other timesinks. My wife and I have been thinking of unplugging the TV for a while now. If I continue with other fruitless activites, am I not just substituting one evil for another. But giving several things at once is tough? or is it essential?
I realize baby steps are key, but it's like telling a recovering alcoholic that smoking is ok to do in small amounts.

Hi Hurdoc,

Here are some lists others have made up olganon.org/Gamer/Ideas_to_Help/Alternatives/alternatives.html

I think it would be great if you and your wife also had a list that you created together.

I hope you will keep coming here, and sharing and encouraging others.

Welcome back to your real life. It isn't always going to be easy, but it will be BETTER!

I hope you will look in the I Need Help for Gamer section for more tools.

Liz

Mini-update for day 1...

I've enrolled in Muay Thai, something I've wanted to do since a teen. It's a particularly vigorous form of kickboxing. Pardon the profanity but I'm going to kick my own ass!
