How Can I start up a face to face meeting in my local area.

How Can I start up a face to face meeting in my local area.

I am NOT trying to solicit other online addicts here, who happen to live a long way from me in Florida. I AM asking for some REAL advice on how to begin a local chapter of OLGA in my local area. I need help on how to do this. How do I advertise the meeting. What kind of Literature is available for me to use, if any? Am I authorized to use and reproduce the twelve steps and traditions of OLGA? Can I reproduce information from the website? Do I report to OLGA as a local chapter?

This is my plight. I asked before but I am serious about trying to advertise for a meeting here.

Re: But seriously folks

You can go to www.meetup.com and advertise for a local meeting. You can go to your local church(es) and ask permission to host a meeting there and then set up flyers or ask to post about an OLGA meeting in a church bulletin. Just some thoughts ~

Meetup.com is one of the best tools for organizing meetings in your area. In-person OLGA meetings are only now starting to pop up but pretty much have to rely on grass-roots efforts at this stage since we don't really have a process or set format yet. Maybe it's time to start thinking about a meeting-schedule forum. Ron

a local church would be a good place to start I think so you can get someplace to be.. then Meetup.com to get other people that wants/needs help as well.
When you've had your first meeting I'm guessing it will be easier... you exchange e-mails or phone numbers and you can meet up at someones house or something like that.

I think having a gaming addiction meeting at a game shop is like having an AA meeting in the bar... The action figures, comic books, tshirts, other gamers talking about how awesome the game is.
Yeah...I can see that being a bit trying.

Contact your church, or local churches. They are usually able to support those in need. Let me know, if you need more assistance. Liz

Re: But seriously folks

Theres a HUGE problem in our area with local churches beginning to refuse any new 12 step groups because of insurance liability issues which have risen in Florida. Even some long established meeting (some meeting in the same church without incident for over twenty years) have been told to leave. Our home group recently had to move from our church because we were told any minor that attended would cause us to fall within this issue with the insurance and that we would have to provide a one million dollar rider to effect their attendance. The church we moved to, is aware of this growing concern but is cool about it so far and we dint have that requirement hanging over our heads right now. That is why I for one want to thank every one who shared in this thread for their comments, but I am going to focus on the OLGA chat forum for now. This is the medium that caught the attention of the newcomer first and this is where we should concentrate our efforts, IMO.
