Sexist?

I really like what you do here and I think it's very necessary. Just knowing this site was here helped me realize that my addiction was real and beatable. I just now went through the "Ideas to Help" section for gamers and I was appalled by the section of suggestions for women. I mean, come on now, what decade are we living in here? I don't even wear makeup and haven't read Cosmo since I was 13 and even then I realized what a load of crap it was and how damaging it is to women's self image. I don't have enough makeup to organize and I don't like to shop. Following your suggestions would make me depressed enough to run screaming back to my online game if I actually tried them.

I respectfully ask that you get rid of that sexist load of cow patties and replace it with suggestions like these:

Learn to knit, if you don't have anyone who can teach you, take a class. Actually, any class is great. Learn to ride a motorcycle, throw a pot, paint, or play a musical instrument. Make a date with your friends (hopefully you can still remember their numbers) to go for coffee and try to make it a standing appointment. Book a massage, a manicure, or a whole day at the spa, pamper yourself. Make time for a long soak in the tub with a good book and a nice cup of tea (or glass of wine.) Organize your junk drawer (or drawers.) Clean out the garage. Make a play date with each of your kids. Go for a bike ride. Walk. Meditate. Be "intimate" with your significant other - if you're a game addict it's probably been a while... Just do anything that helps to reinforce that real life is a goodplace to be.

Re: Sexist?

Please, please add your suggestions to the list in the same place.

We are no monolithic organization, whose leadership is unapproachable. We are a small organization and your input is VERY valuable!

Thank you!

Re: Sexist?

(I know this is old, but it's a good idea)
Or why even have them gender-separated? A lot of the male suggestions applied to me, moreso than the female ones.

Knitting isn't my thing. But crochet and macrame, nothing says "fun Friday Evening" like a ball of Jute, 10 skeins of brightly-colored yarn and a bunch of beads making giant macrame owls. (Just kidding) ;) Ron

I always thought Ron wore a tu-tu while going around and managing these boards.... *grin* More of a dancer or something, not so much the needlepoint... :) Not a stripper though. I've never seen that happen - cept with my hubby - so umm I'd like to keep it that way ;) *wink* We tease those we love... Back to my dishes and housework..... YEAH RIGHT ;)

Re: Sexist?

I've actually done needlepoint. Because of my ADD though, I was never able to concentrate long enough to finish the 4 or 5 things I started. By the way, the post that started this thread back in '05 is one of my favorite posts. It shows the contrast between Liz's small-town upbringing where men and women had stereotypical social "duties" and the post of someone more "liberated." I'm not really a tu-tu kind of guy. Grass skirts make my privates "itch." :) Ron

Re: Sexist?

Fix the suggestions and don't complain lol, but seriously, you don't HAVE to do them, come up with your own. I'm a 15 year old guy and, well, I'm not gonna knit =P I'll do stuff I want to do, like ride my scooter around and do tricks and whatnot.

[size=14]No matter what kind of scooter, be careful... and as for tricks being feasible... Never slows some people down... I saw bunch of guys on sport bikes riding down a busy road, the other day. This section of road was under construction with lane shifts and some uneven pavement etc... One of these guys was "standing" on the seat of his bike with his arms held straight out to either side like he was walking a tight rope while cruising down that street at about 45mph. ... and they say "motorcycles" are dangerous .... !!!!
