Face to Face Meeting Formats? Anyone? Tampa, FL

Hello,

I was just curious if anyone had created a meeting format "booklet" for the face to face meetings. In some of my other 12-step groups we have a booklet the chair reads from that has the 12-steps, traditions, etc. I know that some people may choose to have step meetings or open discussions, I'm just looking for something that helps open/close the meetings & that enforces what olga is about. If there isnt one already, I have started working on one & I am willing to share it (once complete.) Again, thank you all for this fellowship.

Sincerely,

John J (JJ)

I think that Jj has the

I think that Jj has the right idea, by creating something new for use in a meeting. What we have is stale and stagnent. We need fresh ideas. I believe Barb has developed some great outlines for the DC group. We should always look out for new perspectives for literature.

Thanks guys for the

Thanks guys for the info/replies.

John of the Roses and I have started a Tampa chapter, although its just the two of us at the moment.

I really like what was on the link that BGH posted. However, I would like to add what John of the Roses suggested: "The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop gaming. There are no dues or fees for OLGA membership; we are self supporting through our own contributions. OLGA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stop excessive gaming and help other online gaming addicts to stop gaming."

I was also thinking about creating 2 pamphlets using info from this site. One would be the Screening Tool for Excessive Gamers, and the other would be the Withdrawal Symptoms. I was just planning to create the pamphlets with Publisher and print them out. I attend other 12-step groups & I have found pamphlets helpful. However, I understand the importance of using OLGA approved literature. So, we could probably use some of those brochures down the road (as our group grows.)

Thank you for saying my ideas are new and fresh. Although, I am not sure they are. LOL :D I am kind of a "if its not broke, don't fix it" kind of guy. However, I do know that face to face meetings are different than phone or internet ones (just from my experience.) But all serve the same purpose and I believe they are all helpful. :D

JJ, We might be able to use

JJ,

We might be able to use you on the Communications Committee, if you're interested in doing what you suggest.

Thanks,

Brad

P.S., I don't think we have to reinvent the wheel. I have the Green Book of Sex Addicts Anonymous. Their material is fresh and relevant.

Hi guys. Sorry its been

Hi guys. Sorry its been awhile. I honestly haven't completed the pamphlets yet. I guess my procrastinating/laziness has gotten the best of me. I got some bad news this week and its been all I can do to just stay sober, game free, and avoid acting out. I know its not good to "medicate" sadness, mourning, disappointment, etc with my addictions... So, I have tried to get out of the house as much as possible lately. Although I know service is important for recovery, I need to clear my mind a bit before I can focus on some of the stuff I previously said I would do. I apologize for my flakiness. Take care guys.

Your friend,

JJ

I have the materials you

I have the materials you will need for a meeting - the convenor's checklist, the opening, the newcomer's welcome, the closing, the 12 steps, 12 traditions, and serenity prayer. It's all in a meeting package that I put together. I also have flyers. Liz has brochures. We use these materials every week, for the OLGA face to face meetings in DC. Let me know if you want the package, and I would be very happy to email it to you.

I have used a similar format

I have used a similar format with face-to-face and Skype meetings. It is very effective. I like to finish with the Promises from the Big Book.
