ForceTek XIO: the gaming controller that hurts you, not the TV (video)

The article, at http://www.engadget.com/...">http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/18/forcetek-xio-the-gaming-controller-th... (WARNING: There are a few gaming screen shots), says:

Quote:... here's a controller that actually makes you feel the games. At E3 earlier this week, startup firm ForceTek was seen demoing its XIO Virtual Gaming System -- a rather fancy name for a force-feedback arm exoskeleton that "provides a controlled resistance" to your arm and wrist movement. ... imagine feeling a virtual basketball bouncing, or your virtual machine gun recoiling, or even the reaction force from a virtual punch.

This is one more small step towards blurring the distinctions between virtual systems and reality. I don't know if this will have much effect on people who are addicted to playing video games. For example, although it makes the games more realistic (and, perhaps, addictive), getting enough virtual punches may make the arms quite sore. Of course, they could just stop using this controller if something like that ever happened.

Interesting,

I see it as one more step in the direction of complete body immersion into worlds. Scary...

I agree.

The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

The question is....will you be able/courageous/adult enough to sacrifice that which merely pleases you...for that which will truly fulfill you? That is the question of personal growth.

"It's all in your mind...Whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life.If you continue to believe as you have always believed, you will continue to act as you have always acted. If you continue to act as you have always acted, you will continue to get what you have always gotten. If you want different results in your life or your work, all you have to do is change your mind."  I hate to be a conspiracy

I hate to be a conspiracy theorist, but think about how many MILLIONS of people....are playing hours and hours of video games. Imagine what COULD be accomplished....if they didn't play???

The world could be a much better place.

or at least they'd get their homework done on time

this controller is another attempt at getting people hooked on some artificial thing, whereas they could easily do the same thing for a lot cheaper and for real

it's another piece of junk you don't need

If you play video games, turn them off once in a while and rejoin life. Some of us here like you, don't ask me why.

Well conspiracy or not, in

Well conspiracy or not, in my op thats how some of the great people in our history made an impact and difference on things ,and for themselfs.By standing above and beyond the masses or what the new fad or thinking was. So i dont think your being an conspiracy theorist Real. Now im not talking about the extremist or the people that did fanatical things in history for a bad cause, but the people who did not go with what the status quo was or new trend was. They saw in themselfs the unique individuals that they were, just like Neo in the Matrix saw in himself. Also this is going off track i know im bad for that so forgive me,but i noticed while watching the Matrix again. The part when Neo gets unplugged you see how grey and dark that realworld they lived in looked compared to the artificial clinical clean one he was hooked into.I could not help but notice some of the similaritys in others posts here about how thats how they portrayed there real lifes looked to them when they first quit there game/games of choice and started living in the real world again.Thats what it looked like to me at first too.Grey boring kinda bleak, but its been getting brighter and the colours are starting to flow back in again.I hope thats whats transpiring here for you all to.
