Hi, OLGA Folks,
The Becoming a Member / Joining the OLGA and OLGA-non Community page at http://www.olganon.org/?q=becoming_a_member_of_olga discusses how to register for the site. However, being designated an "OLGA Member" with the ability to blog seems to be something separate from registration. It would be great if the site could be more clear what the differences are between registration and being an OLGA Member. For example, what are the additional privilages and responsibilities of membership? How does one go from being registered to being a member, if one is willing to take on those responsibilities?
If this is already covered somewhere that I haven't found, please point me towards the location.
Thanks!

Hello wrkinprogrss, There is not seperate registration. Normally after you have posted for a while one of the admins will "upgrade" you to member status. Recently there has been a bit of a changing of the guard with the leadership here and I guess we are a bit shorthanded right now. I appologize for the oversight and I will fix it now.

Thanks for the fast reply!
No need for an apology--I just didn't know what the deal was. Is there anything else I should know about, having been upgraded? (Any changes besides ability to blog and now seeing the "OLGA Member" label on my posts?)
Much appreciated!

As an OLGA Member you should now be able to see a few more forums. These forums are viewable by OLGA members and Admins but not new arrivals and Anon's, so basically it is a place to post things with other gamers without Anon's perspective.
Anon's have their own version of these forums specifically for them that other recovering gamers can't see.

This helps both sides to share about things that may harm others (like the things we got up to when we were sick), especially as there can be both partners using this site in some cases - one gamer and one family member (we call them anon's)...
Good to know. Thank you both!

Hello,
Welcome to OLGA. We also have a Frequently Asked Questions post about our organization. Here is the link to that: http://www.olganon.org/?q=node/19647
I hope this helps.

I don't know how to use this site. Can't go to a meeting. Nothing seems to be interactive for me. Logging on is a hassle and I am forever (at least) 7 times been told my name or password is not recognized.
Woody1 send Liz a message to make you a member.

Hi Woody1,
Welcome to OLGA.
I have given you OLGA (gamer) membership access to the member section.
OLGA members have access to some members-only discussion boards (visible somewhat further down the list of message boards) that should now be visible to you. Please explore and read what has been shared before you. All of us here have been affected by gaming addiction. OLGA is a safe place for you!
Use the website to learn about recovery and find other members in your are to start or go to an OLGA face-to-face meeting. That is where real the real human interaction and healing can be found. This website is just a stepping stone to that. Please read: http://www.olganon.org/?q=starting_a_local_chapter
You can ask for a sponsor. What is a sponsor? Here is a link to that section: http://www.olganon.org/?q=forum/168
There are many other resources on the site, and I encourage you to explore them. Of particular importance are:
1) the forum guidelines, which help us maintain a safe and supportive space for the fellowship: http://www.olganon.org/?q=becoming_a_member_of_olga
2) To learn more about our organization, please read this post of Frequently Asked Questions: http://www.olganon.org/?q=frequently_asked_questions
3) To learn more about this addiction, the new comer post for gamers: http://www.olganon.org/?q=node/41046
The olganon.org website supports several groups:
a. The OLGA fellowship (recovering addicted gamers).
b. The OLG-Anon fellowship (friends and family of gaming addicts). The OLGA and OLGA-Anon fellowships each have a members-only area that others can't access. Although you should always try to be polite and considerate with anything that you post, you should especially keep that in mind if you are replying to a thread in the OLG-Anon (i.e., family and friends of gaming addicts) section.
c. OLGA Outreach is the public service division, which gives members a place to offer service.
I hope this helps!
Sincerely,
Liz
