Hello everyone. My name is Mark and I am a recovering video game addict. I have been clean for about a week and a half now. I am looking for a group that might meet anywhere in the Chicago area. I know one of the things I need to do is surround myself with people for support. I might try the online meetings at some point but right now they make me feel like I am going on a "raid" which is uncomforatble for me at this point. So....if there is someone who might know of a group in the Chicago area that has regular meetings I would like to be a part of it.
Thanks.
Mark, there are no meetings in that area. Why not try an online meeting, you'd be suprised at how theraputic they can be! Hope to see you there.

Ok thanks I may have to try that route. Even with some of the press releases from the AMA it still seems to be somewhat under the radar. I can say from personal experience it is a very real problem for some people like myself.
Which press release are those?

Some date back to June-July 2007 let me see if I can find the links. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19354827/ http://news.digitaltrends.com/news-article/13374/ama-rejects-video-game-addiction and here is something more recent. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/06/21/health/main2965003.shtml Apparently the book that astablishes alcholism or gambling as a mental disorder is being revised in 2012 and the AMA is taking a serious look at video game addiction.
True Mark. Internet addiction, including gaming, is under consideration for the next revision of that diagnostic book. As an organization, we're content to allow that process to move forward independently with the great minds that are working on the issue. We're focused on people like yourself who ask for support and assistance. These forums and online meetings are always available as a source of support and hope, but if you feel inclined to put together a face-to-face meeting in the Chicago area at some point in the near future, please let us know and we'll provide you with the info you require to make this happen. Regards, Brad
