Temecula, CA - Gaming and Internet Addiction Group

I am a co-leader for a Celebrate Recovery Gaming and Internet Addiction Group. Our group includes all Internet and gaming addictions, including gambling.

For those who seek face-to-face meetings in Southern California who are okay with a Christ-centered 12 Step program, message me privately.

Your's is a "Christian" faith based organization.. correct?

It's the 12 Steps (same ones) backed by Christian principals and Biblical passages. The higher power is Christ centered. It's another choice. How is posting an option for others locally in SoCal not appropriate in face-to-face forums? Are we interested in helping others heal? What's wrong with a "Christian faith based" organization? This is an option for those with no where else to turn, who are seeking face-to-face meetings. I am there every Thursday as a co-leader.

Celebrate Recovery 12 Step Program

We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors. That our lives have become unmanageable. (Romans 7:18 NIV- I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.) We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. (Philippians 2:13 NIV - For it is God who is at work in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.) We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God. (Romans 12:1 NIV - Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship.) We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. (Lamentations 3:40 NIV - Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.) We admitted to God, ourselves and to another human being, the exact nature of our wrongs. (James 5:16 NIV - Therefore, confess your sins to each other, and pray for each other, so that you may be healed.) We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. (James 4:10 - Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.) We humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings. (1 John 1:9 NIV - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.) We made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. (Luke 6:31 NIV - Do to others as you would have them do to you.) We made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. (Matthew 5:23-24 NIV - Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.) We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it. (1 Corinthians 10:12 NIV - So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!) We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and power to carry that out. (Colossians 3:16a NIV - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.) Having had a spiritual experience as a result of these steps, we try to carry this message to others, and practice these principles in all our affairs. (Galatians 6:1 NIV - Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.)

I tried looking online for local Celebrate Recovey groups. How would one find a group in a different county if Temecula is too far away?

I don't know where you live, but aside from the Temecula group, the only Online Gaming related recovery groups I know of are in New York, San Diego, and Washington DC. If you need face to face meetings, other 12-step fellowships that may have meetings near you are NA (Narcotics Anonymous for any substance related addiction), AA(Alcoholics Anonymous), GA(Gamblers Anonymous), OA(Overeaters Anonymous), and many more.

If you are cross-addicted like I am, those can help you with your struggle, including with your gaming addiction. I share about my gaming addiction in NA groups, where I started 11 years ago to deal with a daily pot smoking habit. Olganon is mostly online and deals more directly with my video game addiction, but I could not do without my NA face to face meetings.

Perhaps a man who is worthy of the name should put aside this question of how long he will live ..., and turn his attention to this instead, to how he can live the best life possible in the time that is granted to him

Hi  My son is a gaming

Hi

My son is a gaming addict. Do you know of a support group in Orange Country, CA that we can go to? I live in Lake Forest, CA. Also, do you have a meeting in Temecula every Thursday at 6;30 pm? How long does it last? Is it for parents and or teenagers?

Thank you,

I am looking for a face to face meeting for my younger brother, we live in Orange County, but are willing to drive at least for the beginning of his recovery. He does not want to be part of chats or skype because he feels like it is the same as gaming, any suggestions?

Jenibear, I have two young men who drive from Orange County to Temecula for meetings.

There's no other face-to-face meetings that I know of. I will be there tonight.

I was seen many people they

I was seen many people they are more and more tired about the online gamming addiction. I have worked with counselers across the country unfamiliar with Internet gaming addiction and don't understand how treat it. As one monther explained that she had talked to her son's guidance counselors, the school psychologist, and two addiction rehabilitation centers. "No one had ever heard of someone getting addicted to X-Box Live," she said. "They all told me it was a phase and that I should try to limit my son's game playing. They didn't understand that I couldn't. He had lost touch with reality. My son lost interest in everything else. He didn't want to eat, sleep, or go to school, the game was the only thing that mattered to him." thanks and read more at: http://www.truetime-applications.com/

truetimeapplications, I am

truetimeapplications, I am right there with you. I have tried to find help for my son for years, there is nothing around that I have found, talking to people is hard and when I do talk to them I do not get much information and I have even had people laugh about it, saying that video games are not addictive. very sad, I am so glad I found this site, I am new and am excited to see what kind of support and help I can get and hopefully my son as well.

Thank you

Hi Hopeformoms, Welcome to

Hi Hopeformoms,

Welcome to OLGA. I'm glad you found us and there are many moms here who have experienced similar encounters with the mental health community. If you haven't had time to read various posts on this website, I encourage you to. You will find you are not alone and there is hope and there are stragegies to help your family. I'm a mom who has been through it and after a long hard road (that was well worth it!) life is so muh better now!

I'd like to suggest that you begin your own thread under "I Need Help for Parents" so that it can be better seen by others who would like to provide feedback. You can simply cut and paste a portion of your entry above.

All the best!

Hi, I'm interested in interview OLGA's or anyone who finds themselves having problems because of addictive behavior in an online format for my podcast and youtube channel to bring to light this issue and erode some of the shame/guilt/stigma surrounding it.  Can you help me please?
