Quote:The International Video Game Hall of Fame has announced that a Redmond man is to be inducted into the IVGHOF on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at the Bridge View Center in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Steve Wiebe, of Redmond, Wash., will be honored for his accomplishments as an arcade video game competitor. Wiebe has enjoyed recognition as the former world record holder on Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong, Jr. ...

The IVGHOF was created to honor the video game age luminaries and to preserve artifacts and memorabilia generated by this dynamic industry. The IVGHOF is registered with the IRS as a 501C(3) not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization allowing it to accept donations and issue tax receipts.
Steve is just one among 19 other gaming "champions" that are being inducted this year, with the full list of all inductees at http://www.ivghof.com/...">http://www.ivghof.com/the-big-bang/inductees]http://www.ivghof.com/...[/... (WARNING: This is another pro-gaming site).
Although I generally believe in recognizing excellence, my concern regarding this is that it may be helping to promote video game addiction among susceptible people. The extent of this potential issue likely depends on how much this IVGHF becomes well known and regarded, especially among video game players.

Not sure if I agree with you, John.
People can get addicted to exercise and sports. But we also have the Olympics to showcase their skills.
It's a fine line.....between dedication and addiction.
The question is....will you be able/courageous/adult enough to sacrifice that which merely pleases you...for that which will truly fulfill you? That is the question of personal growth.
