I dont live in the USA, so I was unaware of this phenomenum. I am wondering if intervention might be helpful for those addicted to gaming.

Yes, intervention is widely accepted here as a way to deal with extreme addiction. I don't know why it wouldn't work for gaming addiciton also. One issue might be getting enough of the gamers friends and family "on board" with the severity of gaming addiction. With alcohol or drugs, or gambling, people usually will accept that it is creating a real problem. Even the addict themself knows it inside. With gaming, a lot can go under the radar, and many may not see it to be the problem that it is. Gamers are pretty quiet and peaceful when they have their "drug".
