Archived Gratitude List

I have had sponsors in other 12-step programs encourage me to write a gratitude list. Of course, at the time I was too stubborn to do it. As I recall, the point of it is to focus on the positive things I have rather than dwelling on the negative. Some of the other program people could probably shed more light on this. So anyway, I thought I would start one. Feel free to add your own: I am grateful for the sunrise and the beautiful moon I am grateful for the stars I am grateful that I have a job I am grateful that I have food to eat I am grateful that I have a bed to sleep in I am grateful that my wicked, evil UBER boss didn't come to the office today....LOL will add more as i think of it

Re: Gratitude List

Here are some of mine, in no particular order. I am grateful for the clothes on my back, the roof over my head, having heat when the weather is cold, the clean air that I breathe, the fresh water that I drink and the quality food that I eat.
I am grateful for the love and kindness that people give to me and that I am able to give back to them.
I am grateful that I can be, to some extent, my own boss by having several clients who give me work that I get quite well paid for.
I am grateful for all of the freedoms and opportunities that I have.
I am grateful for having nature around, such as beautiful sunrises, sunsets, mountains, trees, grass, etc.
I am grateful that I have free access to public facilities such as roads, libraries, sewage, garbage pickup, etc.
I am grateful that I live in relative peace and harmony with the people around me instead of having war and pestilence.
I am grateful that there is a higher power that appears to be benevolent.
I am grateful for recovering from my gaming addiction so that I can be a better person and try to compensate those people who I have hurt.
I am grateful that I am still in relatively good health.
I am grateful for just being alive!

Re: Gratitude List

As you can tell by looking at the date and time of this post compared to my previous one, I had just written the post above when I decided a few minutes later to go read something inspirational. Well, I went to my IE favourite's list of inspirational websites, clicked on the Inspiration Peak one, clicked on the stories link (I had not yet viewed anything from here) and then looked at the first story called "Be Happy (A True Story)", by Davy Jones, at http://www.inspirationpeak.com/cgi-bin/stories.cgi?record=115. In an amazing coincidence, this story talks about somebody who was down and out but had his life turn around when he started focusing on the positive by initially writing a list of 50 things to be grateful for and then later 75 things. In other words, this story talks about almost exactly what this thread is talking about! This story is quite heart-warming and I hope that you enjoy reading it as much as I did.

Re: Gratitude List

Here are a few more that I have thought of now that I am in that frame of mind: I am grateful that I have all of my senses, i.e., that I can see, hear, talk, smell and touch.
I am grateful that I have free or low-cost access to inspiring music, educational television and a wealth of information on the Internet.
I am grateful that I have had an excellent education so far, both formal in school and informal through life in general.

My gratitude shows,
when I care and when I share
with others a path to recovery. In this way, gratitude becomes a verb!

I am grateful for my intelligence, that I worked so hard to achieve. I am grateful that my brother is doing well. I am grateful for the responces to my post, because I feel each of you are trying to help me take hold of my inner strength. I am grateful that after several months, a lost friend texted me just to remind me how wonderful I am and to say that they missed me. I am grateful for the life lessons I have learned, and those I will learn in the future.

It's funny, I was just

It's funny, I was just thinking there must be a Gratitude post in this forum, and of course...here it is! I complained a bit about feeling stressed today about everything and nothing... and this guy at my 12-step group reminded me of gratitude. To think about how NICE it is to be able to do things (that can make me stressed...) Like: I am grateful that I am able to clean my house I am grateful that I can go shopping I am grateful that I can drive a car and that I have a car I am grateful that I can order pizza when I don't have energy to cook. ;) I am grateful that I can crash in front of tv when I'm exhausted. I'm grateful that I have a safe home and that I can choose to clean whenever I want to. (ok, cleaning my house seems to be on top *lol*) I am grateful to be here! Great thread!

In Reply #2 of this thread,

In Reply #2 of this thread, I mention a story of a person who helped turn his life around by initially writing 50 things to be grateful for and then later 75 things. Well, in a similar fashion, I have put together a list of things to be grateful for. I used what has been written here by me and others, what I wrote as part of my daily gratitude acknowledgement in my morning ritual (see How do you start your day? for details), and a few additional ones that I just came up with. Altogether, I have 67 now. It was not particularly easy for me since I tried to limit overlap and duplication between items, to make each item fairly general and impactful, and to make them time-independent (i.e., avoid having ones that happened to me at a specific time only). Note that I plan to quickly read through these items quite frequently, likely every day during my morning ritual, as well as whenever I feel that I need a bit of a boost. Also, as I think of more items, I plan to keep adding them to this list,. I hope to have over 100 items fairly soon.
