I Am Back

My son works at a newspaper from 4 to midnight, five days a week. He has been doing this for a year and a half. He comes home at midnight via taxi, he lost his car two years ago and really doesn't care, plays WOW until I get up at 5 (he use to go to bed then but now it is later). He sleeps until 3, gets up to go to work. I take him or a taxi. I just tried to talk to him, he wakes up to smoke, but he always has the excuse what else would I be doing. He loves the game and says he is not depressed. I am beside myself. He is such a beautiful person and a graphic designer that is wasting his life. I spent six years at iVillage getting well on message boards and now am here. I tried "Adults with ADD" at iVillage and somehow found this web site. Just being able to talk to somewhere is of so much help, I feel so alone. Thanks for being here,

Sherry

Re: I Am Back

Welcome to OLG-Anon, Sherry. A very sad story. I have a son who is addicted to WoW also, though he is only 21. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to get them to quit when they are adults. I do hope that he is at least paying for his own account and internet connection, and that you are not cooking, cleaning, or doing laundry for him. There is a post on the top of this forum titled "Help! My Adult Child is Addicted to Video Games". That will give you some suggestions. Some people have printed out posts from these forums and given them to their gamer to read, in the hopes that something in one of them will strike a chord and give the gamer some insight. It's a tough problem though. Sometimes the only thing that will get a gamer to quit is if life becomes uncomfortable enough due to problems caused by the game. Even if he doesn't quit, there is lots of support here for you. Hugs to you.

Protects the lingering dewdrop from the sun." -------William Wordsworth
