Here goes....

Last week, I significantly decreased my gaming. There were times that I told myself I was not addicted. Yet, I could not go one single day without logging in. I've suffered headaches, slept a lot, and had very weird dreams this weekend. The upside of having withdrawal symptoms is that it's proof of the deleterious effects of my gaming.

This week, starting today, I am not logging on at all. I've made lists of other activities. Except for work, I'm limiting my computer time. The computer itself is a trigger. Turning it on, especially after 8PM, is a hazard. I've been coming here and reading (sometimes re-reading posts) to stop from logging on to SL.

I really, really hope and pray that I can do this.

You can.  Look at the

You can. Look at the courage you've already shown here today, not to mention acknowledging that you can't control it and it is deleterious. It's huge.

I'm glad you decided to come

I'm glad you decided to come here and to stop playing. It's hard at first, but if you can stay strong - I can promise you that you'll be really glad you did this.

The best advice I can give

The best advice I can give you in the beginning stages of quitting is to 1) get outside, 2) exercise, and 3) eat a lot of fruits and vegetables for a while. You want your body, mind, and spirit to be as relaxed and healthy as possible so they can devote all their resources to extirpating the symptoms of addiction. Have courage--you'll make it through.

Butterfly, All above is

Butterfly,

All above is excellent advice. You have got it all organized very well. Now its the passage of time. Be gentle with yourself. Realize that, like you have said, 3 years is a long time to put your head, body and soul inside a computer and the zillions of servers the Lindens maintain.

Hey, If quitting was easy, everyone would have done it.
