We strengthen ourselves by helping one another

I'm working on the 12 steps and have a sponsor. So that's cool. But if you're not a stepper, I encourage you to read this. Just a loving suggestion, lol.

BEven with a sponsor, and therapy, I've noticed something else. I have a couple of recovery buddies who are working on sharing our journey together; people at various stages of recovery, both "ahead" and "behind" in terms of time game-free. I've found that having an email relationship with these folks has been super helpful. They provide a mirror in which I can see many aspects of myself. People here are not only similar as human beings, but we are often similar human beings--people whose stress in our lives created/exacerbated vulnerabilities to addictive behavior, which then sunk its teeth into our butts. We have so much in common.

Of course, posting here, on my blog and in other places, going to meetings, and reading, has helped me *a lot*. But there is something powerful about sharing more individually and personally with someone, my insights, my story, hopes and fears. It's great.

So whether or not you're a stepper, if you are trying to recover, I encourage you to find someone you can develop such a relationship with. It's been helpful to me, and I need all the help I can get.

I am a recovering computer game and gambling addict. My recovery birthday: On May 6, 2012 I quit games and began working a program of recovery through OLGA No computer games or slot games for me since December 12, 2012. No solitaire games with real cards since June 2013.
