The day started with the hypocrite sound of my alarm radio. I step out of bed and feel pain in the stomach because of the kingsize Shawarma & booze last night. Time to fresh up and go to lectures. The first hour I sit next to some people I barely know and feel insecure and lonely. Blegh insecurity & loneliness drive to drugs, gaming & recklessness :( Next hour, I chat a lot with friendly people and laugh too loud in the class. :D What must the professor think? ;)
Did homework with those boys n girls, shopped with roommates and made plans for next weekend.
Ill be going to a rowing competition in a city far away :) Finished a System&Control assignment with some guy and feel much better now Im finally rid of it.
A sweet & beautiful girl asked if she can drive with me and I screwed up, if only I were an easygoing pimp...
This ****ed me off enough to finally agree to have therapy for my panic attacks. Next hour my rowing team will eat & drink at my house.
That'll be fun :)
Today, was a better day than yesterday :D Followed lectures
Did very effective fitness
followed evening lectures....
went to the fraternity
and... Got a date for tomorrow with the girl I thought I screwed up with yesterday :D She is my date for the christmass dinner tomorrow at the dorm. :D :D :D And yes, students are lazy, thats why we celebrate christmas now.
Another day GAME-FREE and I feel so blessed. * I had breakfast with my family. * I worked with group-therapy with my clients and it went amazingly well. * Had dinner with family and then played with my two children and hugged them tight. * Went to see a friend for two hours and had a great talk over a few cups of tea.
* Read and posted at olga. Answered e-mails. * Now going to bed in a decent time. I am grateful for another day game free.
Today I mainly worked on updating and putting together my resume and a cover letter. I am applying for an administrative assistant position at a children's advocacy center. I'm hoping that the position, if I am lucky enough to get it, will grow into more as I go further with my education in the field of human services and then social work.
Just got home from a party. I went with the girl I thought I screwed up with and yet wanted to be my christmas date. She is my girlfriend since that dinner :D The only pretty & funny girl from my study. Really weird to have a girl like that in a "male study", yet lovely :)
For the rest I did kickboxing. Finally I start to learn the game.
Bought Armani pour Homme perfume.
Did school projects.
Had to do a powernap in the afternoon to keep up this life.
Tomorrow 8 o clock Im at work Big con... Last month I spent over 2 grant; I earn pretty well, but this is like the max I can spend. This life is waaaaaaay more fun, yet much much more expensive if you want to life it high profile, also you dont have any time to "stay yourself" if you party a lot. I feel freaking superficial, slapping guys on the back laughing, making witty comments etc... Act popular while I dont feel like that... Anyways I keep up this act for a few months, its fun :)
Today: * Watched the Oprah show
* Worked on a song and played my guitar
* Applied for a job
* E-mailed and got a reply about joining a Gospel-choir. (going to start singing again yeah!!)
* Played Cowboys and Indians with my daughter :P
* Hugged my kids and had pancakes * Took a nap
* Talked to friends on a phone
* Wrote a nice birthday-card to a friend
* Sent e-mails, posted here and read posts. I CHOOSE my real life.
I turned the internet on. I turned up the sound on my television very very loud and cleaned my kitchen. It helped drown the voices inside me screaming for me to game.

Imagine what you could do, if you did not game.... YOU can begin a completely different life. Take a few moments to imagine the life you could create apart from your gaming... Morning without games: When everyone is in a hurry to get to school or work, morning can become very hectic. Gaming only adds to the distraction. If you are not gaming and are in the present with your family, children are more likely to cooperate with getting ready. There may even be time for an oldAC/a,!Afashioned family breakfast. At least your family will have more time for pleasant goodAC/a,!Abyes as they all start their day. AfterAC/a,!ASchool without games: Instead of afterAC/a,!Aschool games, which are usually filled with violence and eat-up-time, send kids outside to play. Kids need to play. They are so much happier when they have a chance to run around and burn off energy. Parents need to play too. Join your kids in a game of soccer or basketball. Go for a walk around the neighborhood. Go for a family bike ride. The possibilities are endless. Enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. You can even drag some friends and neighbors away from their Tv's, Game Boys, and computers and all play together. With all that exercise, you and your family should build up quite an appetite. Dinner without games: After so much fun and exercise, your family will be ready for a hearty, healthy dinner together. Dinnertime can be relatively quiet and pleasant if everyone is present, mentally. No TV, no games. Your family can discuss any problems or concerns that may have come up during the day. Catch up on the family news you need to hear instead of the TV news, that the networks want you to hear. After dinner with no games: Now imagine your family finishing dinner and cleaning up together. Ok, I realize chores are not the most popular or enjoyable family activity. You may not even wish to mention chores when you are selling this ASAoFamily TimeASAo plan to the rest of your family. However, just imagine how much easier it will be to get everyone to pitch in when they are not gaming. Prime Time without Games: After a healthy dinner and chores, it is a ASAoprime timeASAo for your family to connect with some fun activities. Depending on your family, this time could be either relaxing or exciting. You could play board games, do puzzles, read, or cuddle for a laidAC/a,!Aback evening. You could dance, have pillow fights, or even have tickle fests for fun and excitement. You could even go for an evening walk and look at all the strange glows coming from other houses where the families are staring at their computers and TVAC/a,!a,,C/s like zombies. Late night without games: Once the kids are in bed, you and your partner will have a perfect chance to connect. You can paint your own picture about what that time might be like. However, after going this far without gaming, I would hope you would not turn to it at this point! Then, naturally, after such an exciting, funAC/a,!Afilled day you will be ready AND have time for a full nightASA1s sleep. Your Family without games: Do you think your family might be happier and healthier with such a routine? Naturally, each family is different. The routine your family actually creates will probably be a little different from the one described above. You will have lots of family time. Many times you will have a hard time keeping the kids indoors, because they love to play outdoors so much.

I started to re-write a Fantasy Fiction novel that I started a few years ago, before I began gaming- I have to re-write it from the beginning- take all the juvenile mistakes out of it, and make it more of a book and less a short story. It's looking pretty good right now :)

My wife's away between Dec. 26 and New Year's Day. I've picked up a couple extra shifts at work and committed to spend more time with my family, as well as set some goals for some web site development and let my accountability partner know what web sites I shouldn't be looking at so he can keep an eye out when the report arrives in his email from Covenant Eyes.

I'm glad to see this thread revived - I remember it was inspiring to me when I first visited this site, over a year ago. Lately I have been rediscovering D&D - pen & paper, not the MMO. I haven't played since high school, but I joined a group that meets once a month. It scratches some of the same itches as WoW (the whole fantasy thing), but is much more social.
Today: Went to the botanical gardens to look at the cherry blossoms. Found the best pizza place in NYC Walked across the brooklyn bridge Going to see an off-broadway show tonight then out for sushi for dinner.... and i'm totally exhausted... and game-free for 5 days. :)
hi i am a new member here. here are the things that i have done this day morning: i played the game that i am addicted to, and realized that it was time to change so that i can focus again on my studies. evening (about 6 30 pm): -i decided to quit gaming slowly -i researched about how to quit gaming -i found OLGA, joined it and post some stuff after reading tons of posts *sorry if some parts have a bad grammar, i live in the Philippines and Filipino is my primary language, haha. by the way, thanks to OLGA and to all the people that kept posting here, it made me stick to my decision to begin quitting gaming.

Last night at 2am I sat staring at my PC desktop replaying games in my head thinking about all the things I once had. I even researched on trying to bring back my character and was quite relieved that it could not be done. Decided I really didn't want to anyways I went to sleep. I woke up early took a nice shower and spent the morning with the wife and kids instead of the PC. It's a shame it's raining out or I would be outside playing with them rather than watching cartoons and wrestling on the couch. I hope all of you have been so fortunate today. Joe
Wife is out of town and the kids are out of school - this would have been prime game play time - while I can "work" undisturbed. However, I am actually working from home today instead of playing the game. * Work * Reading OLGA and writing a few posts when I get jittery. * Decide what fun things I can do with the kids at lunch time * Plan a date with my wife for this evening when she gets back * Clean up the house before she gets back :)
I picked up my old friend, the guitar. I used to play it when I was playing video games, and I wanted to learn and get better, but I never had the time to practice, because it took away precious time that I could spend on video games. So I never gave much of a chance. Now, I've been practicing 1 hour a day for 3 weeks, and I really feel like I'm improving. It's so much fun!
Picking up an instrument of any kind is definitely something I'd recommend to anyone who needs an activity. It's so rewarding, And ANYONE can do it! Don't think that you're too old to pick up an instrument. I've read posts on forums from 60+ persons who just started playing and loving it. And you don't have to be super-specially gifted or anything like that. There's no excuse! You don't even need to find a teacher these days. There's so much stuff you can learn from the net

I have taken up painting!! I have no talent - yikes! But for me, it's the process, not the outcome. I like the feeling I get when I am totally absorbed in laying down the paint. It feels real and meaningful.
i'm in bed sick with the flu, have been since wednesday, and am really getting bored! i'm downloading and watching tv. don't have cable. so i'm just layin here with my computer, and feeling tempted for the first time really since quitting september 21st. can't get out to AA meetings and not up to skype. so i thought i'd check in here. not gonna play, just bored...

What I am doing today to not game: Had coffee with a friend, spent some time catching up with family members on the phone, and am cooking dinner for my husband and a friend of ours whose wife is out of town - including my own apple pie from scratch.
Gaming had eradicated all those things--and more significantly, those people--from my life. Now I have them back. Woo hoo!
I had an awesome day today! Got up early and went to the gym with a friend from work. Spent some time there. Got home and had some lunch. Then in the afternoon we met again and traveled into town for some shopping. Found some nice new clothes, which was well needed. It was really fun. I've always had kind of a phobia for clothing stores, but it was great doing it with another person (who isn't your mom). Then we sat down for a cup of coffe, and then we shopped some more! Got home at 7pm. Haven't spent a whole day like that away from home in ages. I loved it! You can really enjoy yourself when your mind is not worrying about the lost time you could be spending playing video games. And we made more plans for the coming days. Yay, I'm so happy! ^^

Loving swimming again. I used to swim at least twice a week until I was 16 then virtually stopped to take up a stoner/gamer lifestyle. Been 1 or 2 times a week since I quit, in a lovely pool - outdoor but heated water in a lovely park area on the outskirts of town. Hurt my back at work last week, was worried it would stop me but I find the water better than sitting vegin in the house so win win.
Oo and have signed a lease on a new flat so will be physically leaving behind my "gamer" house yay!
My day consisted of a nice healthy bacon sandwhich, then the gym to burn off the bacon sandwhich =D. i also did a bit of revision for once and also spoke to a few friends who i havent spoken too in a while,
It is our neglect to speak out on injustice that will ruin us as a people and as a nation. We the people cannot sit and watch this politcal game go unheeded any longer. http://www.movetoamend.org

hi i am a new member here. here are the things that i have done this day morning: i played the game that i am addicted to, and realized that it was time to change so that i can focus again on my studies. evening (about 6 30 pm): -i decided to quit gaming slowly -i researched about how to quit gaming -i found OLGA, joined it and post some stuff after reading tons of posts *sorry if some parts have a bad grammar, i live in the Philippines and Filipino is my primary language, haha. by the way, thanks to OLGA and to all the people that kept posting here, it made me stick to my decision to begin quitting gaming.
i want to quit gaming!
I am addicted to AD&D, paper and pencil variety. I can never go back to that either. Be very careful.

[quote] yesterday is history, tomorrow is the future, today is the present so that why we call it a gift. For each day i do not gamble and consider it a git. i gift i give to myself so that i can lead a better and morseere life. I will not boogle my mind with matters that have happened in the pass or on things that may becoming, I will only concentrate on today, the day God grants me a gift (ONE DAY AT A TIME) , i may have had a rought week-end but I DID OT GAMB;E JUDY

Mickey,
It's at times like this that I recommend lolcats. There are some awesome Halloween-themed ones up!
Alternately, if you want to be educated, there's always the Wikipedia crawl! Start with a topic you're interested in, or just follow random articles...
Sorry to hear this Mickey. If you have netflix you can stream movies, and some movies are still available at hulu.com.
Cheers, Desire to Stop

Hoping & praying for a measure of recovery for all of us today.
What I did today not to game:

I attended an information session for prospective new members of a church that I started going to recently, and that I now plan to join and continue going to it.

Hi all,
This is my first time posting here. I am inspired by all the posts everyone has put up. I have decided to stop video gaming, and I need accountability. I am setting this forum as my homepage and I am going to post a note when I start to get the urge to play video games.
Thank you for being here.

LOLCATS (and LOLDOGS) are hilarious. Just be aware that there's some game advertisements on the site lately.

LARP'ing is alive and well! Thanks for that. A little like Civil War recreationists, but a whole lot more fun I'm guessing.

My day consisted of a nice healthy bacon sandwhich, then the gym to burn off the bacon sandwhich =D. i also did a bit of revision for once and also spoke to a few friends who i havent spoken too in a while,
So far...
