Final Fantasy XI is a brand-new MMORPG game.
Unfortunately I did not write down the text of the warning message that appears each time you start the game. It says something to the effect that they do not want you forgetting about your family, schooling, job, etc. while playing.
If someone else does not reproduce it here sooner, I will try to get it tonite and post it.
I thought that it was interesting that, in addition to the 'seizure' warning, the publisher decided to add a cautionary message about excessive gameplay.
Soprena,
That is great!
I would love to read it, if you can post it here.
Also, who is the maker of that game?
Thanks.

The publisher is Square Enix. I still need to get the actual quote for you.
Here's the message. You must click 'Go' that appears at the bottom of screen in order to log in to the server. And this is the last step to launch the game.
"A Word to Our Players
Exploring Vana'diel is a thrilling experience.
During your time here, you will be able to talk, join,
and adventure with many other individuals in an experience
that is unique to online games.
That being said, we have no desire to see your real life
suffer as a consequence.
Don't forget your family, your friends, your school,
or your work."
My bass amp used to say that when I turned it on, but it gave up, too.
Hey Vynh,
Thanks for the info.
I appreciate it!

Online gaming addiction, judging from what I've heard, is in some ways more serious in the east than in the west, depending on your viewpoint. I know, for example, that in Taiwan, kids sneaking out to their favorite Java Cafe to play games online is somewhat widespread. I've also heard of a case where somebody actually died because all they did was play an online game and didn't eat or drink. Don't quote me on that, though, as I don't really remember the details.
Not that this isn't expected . . . the number of different online games is far greater than that in the west, and by an order of a magnitude, I think. When I was over there, I remember counting about three different online games being advertised on network television there, and I also know that there were several more that could be bought at 711 stores.
