I have to share this special day.
After ten years of trying (as long as I've had this gambling problem), I finally have exactly one year clean time in today.
This goes to show that persistance pays off.
The most important mistake I made was to avoid regular meetings. In the last year I corrected this mistake and finally I can see success in recovering one day at a time from this most insidious illness.
Thanks for listening and thanks for caring.

Dear Carol,
Congratulations on your special day!
What a great accomplishment for you.
Hang in there, and take one day at a time, and pretty soon, you will have two years behind you!
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thanks Liz.
I'm anxious to get into a "normal" relationship, but don't think emotionally I'm ready for it.
Will two years make the difference when it comes to being "ready" for a "normal" relationship should I be lucky enough to find someone suitable in another year?
Carol,
Are you getting professional help for your situation?
If not, I would suggest getting yourself a good therapist.
I have had wonderful professionals give me tools, that have
helped me throughout my life.
The question you asked, would be a good question for your
therapist. Your life is very intertwined, so you need to look at all of it. Don't try to section it off.
You need to get healthy, yourself, before you go off, trying to connect with others.

Carol,
I can't believe you are asking for relationship advice in this forum. Go to a dating service !
What does a dating forum have to do with gambling?
I'm knocking myself out to attend meetings that are way out of my way and not convenient at all time wise so others have an "example" which in turn is supposed to help me.
What I like most about some of the others in our group is that they want to get help to "save" their relationships, so I don't understand why you can't see the direct correlation between relationships (including dating) and gambling.
I think my question might be naive, but not unreasonable.
There is only myself and one other with a year of clean time. Our G.A. group is only a year old and I'm just looking for constructive help where I have zero experience.
Fortuantley there is going to be a forum in Toronto, Ontario in Nov. where there should be "experienced" help
Carol,
This forum is for gamers- like on-line games called Everquest, or Star Wars Galaxy, or Sims, but an addiction is an addiction, and the quesitons and issues surrounding them
are similiar.
Please sift through the board, and use what you can, and leave the rest...

Oh, I didn't know it wasn't for casino and race track gamblers. Sorry. I've never played those other games.
Ontario, Canada has only had casinos for ten years and so many never before gamblers are now addicted with no precidents from other family memebers to learn from because there was never any gambling casinos here before 10 years ago, but in trying to fit in, I'm addicted to my Devon Rex kitty called Spock and he looks like something from Star Trek, hence his name.
That stupid, clutzy kitty and I have a fabulous, loving relationship, :-).
The Devon Rex has always been one of my favorite cat breeds - I don't have one and I rarely see one, but they are really unique - And they are one of the only breeds of cat that people with cat dander allergies can own since they have hair instead of fur, or fur instead of hair, or one of those
