Hello,
I play on the Lanys Server on EverQuest and I post often on this ezboard Lanys server messageboard
I just wanted to know your organizations actual goals.
Are you trying to put limits of online games ?
Are you trying to make aware to people that online gaming can be harmful to some people in the general public or just grouping everybody in the same pool ?
Does your organization have a creditable university study that proves your point of online games cause mental illness ?
Are you trying to smash my Bill of Rights ?
Are you trying to become the next MADD ?
Do you think you may actually try legal action in the future ?
If so, would you mind if I came dressed as a Woodelf Ranger as you come whining out of the courthouse ?
Do you see yourselfs are crusaders or saviors or prophets ?
Have you thought that maybe some people that are bipolar, or schizophrenic, or may also have a substance problem have deeper issues than EverQuest ?
Maybe a doctors prescription to play EverQuest ????

I'll answer your questions with a question:
Have you read a substantial number of posts here to determine for yourself what the positions of the people who moderate this site are?
Quote:I just wanted to know your organizations actual goals. Are you trying to put limits of online games ?Nope. Just trying to help people limit their own online time if that is what they 'choose' to do.Quote:Are you trying to make aware to people that online gaming can be harmful to some people in the general public or just grouping everybody in the same pool ?Excessive and compulsive online gameplaying can be harmful to anyone. But not everyone plays excessively and/or compulsively. Each person is different and experiences the game in a slightly different way.Quote:Does your organization have a creditable university study that proves your point of online games cause mental illness?I don't think we've ever stated that online games cause mental illness. Liz's point is that her son's symptoms didn't surface until he started playing. Please contact her directly for more info on this.Quote:Are you trying to smash my Bill of Rights?Sorry I didn't see gameplaying mentioned in the Bill of Rights. But if you look at the trends of the pathetic public as a whole in this country, we are doing a good enough job of allowing the Bill of Rights to erode to the point that we have very few freedoms left anyway. We Americans, proud as we are, are ignorant about what rights we do have, and are too lazy to make any effort to preserve them, beyond killing others who we don't like. But excuse me, I digressQuote:Are you trying to become the next MADD ?No, but while I don't approve of a number of things MADD does, you can't escape the fact that the organization has made huge strides in recognizing the problem of drunk driving and trying to strengthen legislation to punish and prevent those A-Hole drunk drivers from killing others.Quote:Do you think you may actually try legal action in the future ?Liz's question, I defer.Quote:If so, would you mind if I came dressed as a Woodelf Ranger as you come whining out of the courthouse ?I would. There are too many Wood Elf Rangers. Personally, my Halfling Ranger looks much better in his quest armor and there are fewer of them. It's just too bad that there aren't any player-fashionable Karana-based bows. Oh, I'm sure there's some reason why you would dress as a Wood Elf, but I have no clue what you are getting at.Quote:Do you see yourselfs are crusaders or saviors or prophets ?Nah, just players, ex-players and family members doing a thankless job trying to help other people for no pay, recognition or other benefits, make sense of how and why someone plays online games excessively and compulsivelyQuote:Have you thought that maybe some people that are bipolar, or schizophrenic, or may also have a substance problem have deeper issues than EverQuest?Yes, that point is clearly stated above every message forum, but you would actually have to read the messages there to have seen it.Quote:Maybe a doctors prescription to play EverQuest ????Nah, that would just make the price go up once the insurance companies took charge of having to pay for the expansions.
Seriously though, as Soprena mentioned. Our objectives are clear, but you need to read through our message forums to understand the breadth of what we are trying to do here. Most of what you suspect is wrong, I would guess, judging from your post above.

Ranger, This is our mission statement:
On-Line Gamers Anonymous is a fellowship of people sharing their experience, strengths and hope to help each other recover and heal from the problems resulting from compulsive game playing.
Quote:Are you trying to make aware to people that online gaming can be harmful to some people in the general publicThis is one of the things I am trying to do.
Also, off a place for people to go who are having a problem with their gaming, and a place for family and friends of people who play games, so they know they are not alone.
