Major Board Change Announced...

Over this next week or so, we will finally start separating Liz's personal tragedy with Shawn from the OLGAnon site and discussion board. This topic was never supposed to have been discussed here, but the army of critics who descended upon this discussion board after the TV stories aired just overwhelmed us.

Despite how it may seem, OLGAnon really has nothing to do with Shawn, other than its having been inspired by his tragedy. I realize how it could appear to the contrary, but I assure you that's not the case.

Our doing this will help the OLGAnon staff focus on doing what we set out to do, help those who have problems with compulsive/excessive/addictive gameplay who want help and who cannot regain control on their own. It will also help Liz begin the grieving process without the burdon of worrying about keeping up with the OLGAnon duties, and allow her to reconcile her issues with Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) in whatever way she feels is most appropriate.

*** Important Note ***

The only way that we can effectively separate these two issues, is to remove posts from this board which relate to Liz's personal situation between she and SOE.

The reason I'm pointing this out is so when you start seeing posts disappear, just know that it has nothing to do with whether we agree or disagree with the opinions stated therein. It's just that we have to clear them from this board where they really shouldn't have been since the beginning.

As a personal favor, if you see people who are criticizing us about deleting posts, please remind them of the above. I think most of you see now that we've tried to be fair and equitable with our difficult job of moderating this board.

Thank you,

Diggo

Re: Major Board Change Announced...

Might I ask how you plan on determining what is a post that qualifies as such? Many issues could be related back to Liz and Shawn and could be painted under the same broad brush. Also being his situation is some what known, relating back to what happened there is not necesarily a bad thing.

I understand the reasoning and desire but in this case, keeping your guideline too general may not be the best. Might I suggest you temper the removal with some common sense and not simply blasting any post that involves Shawn or Liz?

Great idea.

Re: Major Board Change Announced...

If I was initiating a case against SOE I would want all of the posts from supporters of SOE and "that game" deleted as well. The could do nothing but hamper her litigation strategy so I understand the real truth about why the posts are being deleted.

If you want a real solution then create a new forum for these posts and insert a disclaimer with OLGAnon's position on the subject or lack of. Anything short of that looks more like a ploy than resolution to a problem.

Zarius there is no "hidden truth" to our agenda here. OLGAnon exists to help gamers and their loved ones overcome the compulsive game playing that has disrupted their lives. That is the only reason why Liz has started this organization, it has nothing to do with any potential lawsuit, if there ever is one. I just fail to see why people can't take this place for the face value of what it really is - an outreach to help.

Zarius, not everything is a conspiracy.

This organization is about one thing; game addiction. Its not about liz and her son. Its not about you and your family. Its not about personal attacks.

Its about game addiction. If you wish to discuss that, its fine; but liz is still having to deal with her son's death, and what she should do about it, if anything. That is a personal issue, of which has no direct relevance to this board when it is causing pain and very possibly ammounting to a personal attack, which is inappropriate here.

For those of you who have expressed sympathy however, those are most appreciated. Empathy of any form is a kindness.

As a side note and off topic: #$%&*, I want to play a game so bad right now it hurts!!! UGH!!!!!

Zarius, there is no lawsuit at this time. We are just trying to separate things so we can actually start being proactively helping people, instead of reactively defending them.

We will probably weight the 'quality' of the content of each post to determine whether or not it will be moved, edited or deleted. We may make a temporary read-only forum to put the stuff into for a while until it is ready to be moved for good. Haven't decided exactly yet.

I can say that there will be no wholesale hacking and slashing of posts without regard to their content.

When you want to play so bad, it hurts, call me.

612-245-1115.

That number is a cell phone, so it should not appear on your bill.

That is why we are here.

Re: Morf

Diggo,

Thanks for clarifying that. I've actually found the answer I was looking for on these boards in another thread, and apologized to the rest of the moderators for seeming like I was trying to stir up s**t. I really wasn't, I was just proceeding under a wrong assumption.

Morf,

have you considered maybe trying some good single player RPG's to curb your craving? They're much easier to turn off. You mentioned NWN in another thread, it's fantastic. So is Morrowind.

Good luck to you guys. People that need help should get it.

Re: Morf

Hi again, Nak.
I think we are all making progress here. The fact is that OLGAnon cannot succeed without the help and invaluable information that online game players have about the games they play, as well as the information about HOW they play. Same for the game manufacturers themselves.

NWN kept crashing on my computer so I exchanged it for Morrowind instead. Dungeon Siege was the only RPG that I have really played since leaving EQ, as I'm mostly an FPS player.

Yes, another game of some kind (long as it isn't a MMORPG) is a great idea to help curb the cravings.

Re: Morf

Diggo,

If you've ever been a fan of D&D, NWN is amazing. You can still play multi-player if that's your thing

I highly recommend it.

Telecom worker here, that is incorrect. That is a long distance call if not in your local area and would be charged as such. Same as if you called me on mine in the 303/720 area.

Not saying you should not call her, but it will be billed as a long distance call if you are outside her area.

Re: Eryl,

Why do I have to pay for the call too - as an incoming call?

Re: Eryl,

A cell phone works much like a land line, the only difference is your connection is a radio signal not a physical line. Your cell phone company has a large PBX (Public/Private Branch Exchange), and you are on it. When you make a local call they route that call to the public network for you through their telephone system. Depending on your agreement with them, they bill you for time on the call, deduct time, or do nothing as is the case for Cricket.

Now if I call you on your cell phone locally to me it is a local call, and is treated as such. I am subject to the agreement with my cell or phone company.

If I call you long distance, then I am subject to the charge for making a long distance call. You are still subject to the agreement with your cell phone company. The only exception to this would be if I made a collect call to you, where it would be billed to your phone if you accepted the charges.

I hope that helps, if not I can give you a ring and explain it on the phone. My cell agreement includes free long distance calling (note calls to me long distance are not free for the caller), I only use my time which I have ALOT more than I ever need or use.
