I appreciate that Liz. It makes me feel embarrassed when people say that to me, but it sure lifts my spirit and pride, too.
I loved serving my country and only wish I was still out there.
Last December a good friend of mine who had left at 15 years from 7th Special Forces group to start a business in the 'real world' went BACK into the military. He could not stand sitting around while tropps were in harms way. He lost one rank and had to take an assignment with a 'regular' Airborne Infantry unit instead of being able to return to 7th SF.
He is now among the troops in Afghanistan again after serving 3 months in Iraq.
llllllll He feels just like all of us 'old' soldiers do. If our country asked, we would all gladly return to duty...he was 'lucky' enough to meet the age cutoff after it had been raised. I cannot return do to my injuries, but in my heart I am out there with the guys...(Sounds corny but it is true).
I watch the news everyday, I write to my Congressman and Senators, I recieve weekly and bi-weekly Army newsletters, I donate money where I can....it's not much, but it is something.
Like General McArthur said: "Old soldiers never die...they just fade away..."
I am not "Old" yet...but definately "fading away" where the military is concerned. Not much more I can do.
Support our troops folks. Be as angry with our government as you please...and make them know of it if that is how you feel...but SUPPORT our soldiers.
A thank you from me too. I support both our soldiers and our government's efforts to preserve our freedoms and way of life. As we now know, those efforts require more than wishing that the problem would go away.
