Other "Addicting Games

Ultima Online (most likely first of them all)
Anarchy Online
DAoC
Many more, dont take it out on SoE, do what that fat guy did about eating fast food, sue em all.... (personally i'm on thier side)
I feel sorry for any one who feels addicted, but if you have people around you, they should be helping you. I'm not addicted, I do play, i havn't played in a week.

If everytime someone died, and you sued the "producer" of their favorite activity, then our economy would be in the dumps.

I hate to relate this to the story of your child, and i hate to place blame, but if you knew he was addicted, you should have forced action, unplug his computer, take out his video card, break something, life is more important than less then $200 moniter.

You say "Take on our challenge: break your game CDs today!" But it wont help, i've known people who did this, and went out on bought more, feeding the addiction, because now they feel they have to get the worth out of it.

In the news report they only show you the extremes... they show a woman, who talks about her character in the third person, they show a guy playing 2 accounts from when he gets home untill he sleeps, and then before work. They show a famous person mad at his son for it. Why dont they show a responsible person, and say something like "Some people feel EQ can be a fine game, if you take responsability, and set limits."

What makes me mad, is that yes, the game does take effort to keep up with it, you do have to focus, when they do these intervies, they tell them to just play normally, or explain what they are doing, and of course they are staring at the screen, if you look away in ANY "real time" game you could loose in an instant. And normal people that dont talk for a living, cant explain things quickly enough that it sounds good to anyone. For example when they said in one of hte interviews "Now were going through a tunnel" of course, its called transportation, you have to get around, it makes it more real. of course he couldn't respond in the real world if some one said, now were going through a tunnel, why, where to, while you were driving, what would you say, (to an adult) maybe "oh yes, its a tunnel, thats how we get through mountain ranges that we dont want to walk over" Without being rude.

I feel this post is going to be deleted. I am on thier side in the lawsuit. I am on your side in life. I dont feel i'm addicted. If some one is, or feels they are, then yes seek help, talk to you friends (non gaming friends), family, any one who will listen. You look stupider dead in your living room sitting at the computer, then you do talking to a random person on the street, in a bus on the way to work. If your express concern then people will help, if some one asked me on the way to work/school/other activity, i would take the time to help them.

In closing, i wish all of you the best of luck, and i think this bored is an Awesome way of helping people. (the ones that need help, dont go recruiting people just because they play.)

Why do you think it is going to be deleted? It is a well thought out post with no flame and very mature. That is all we ask. I also agree with you for the most part. You are right the 48 Hours story was one-sided, showing only the ones who are compulsive gamers and as we all know there are many out there who control the game, the game doesnt control them. But that is the way tv is these days, they sensationalize a lot for ratings. But as I have said, it is CBS that wrote and produced the story not us. As far as which side you are on, I don't care which side you are on with any lawsuit (if there ever is one) because it doesn't matter to me. But when you say that you are on our side in life, well that is what matters. Because that is what side I am on and why I am here.

For some reason, Darwin comes to mind with "the most fit surviving more than the least fit."

Brilidar,

This is an organization for people who have lost the ability to control their gaming and whose lives have become unmanageable as a result. There are many online gamers who can control their gaming -- those types are not the focus of this organization. Furthermore, this organization strives to make it a program of attraction rather than promotion, which means no recruiting, so don't worry about OLGA recruiting happy players.

Btw, yay on Lanys.

Re: Other "Addicting Games

The reason i put, Dont go recruiting people just because they play, is because i felt, (based on the TV reports) that it was trying to get as many people as possible to quit playing, because the game is corrupt.

I think that getting the name out for people who realize that the game isn't good for them is a good thing, but going out and saying, why the game is bad, and why people should quit, and other similer stuff is not only going to get you spammed by players obssessed or not that like playing the game, but its going to turn a lot of people off to the idea.

(all of my first post was based on the TV reports i saw, and some of my thoughts have changes while i think them over.)

Truely i think this is a good thing, and i believe that some people do need it.

FYI -

Tradition 11. Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio and films.

We are to support gamers, should they want to get their "real" lives back.

The question comes up, if they ask me about OLGA, can I tell them?

Yes, you can break your anonymity, but not at the level of press, radio and films. There are many celebrities (actors, rock stars) who are members of 12 step programs, but they don't mention during interviews that they are members of such organizations.

Re: brilidar

Not sure if I've mentioned it, but Quake 2 I've been playing longer than I have Everquest. When I can find a server with people on it, I can still play it for hours at a time. Perhaps all FPS should be added to the list as well? :-P

Saethan,

This is the wrong place to ask such question. This forum is for those who are trying to overcome their online gaming addiction.
