No one is "funding" this board. OLGA/OLG-Anon does not seek "funding", as we've had to pay for it ourselves.
Also, it is obvious you have not read the posts here. This is not a religion, nor to we promote any religion. We do, however, refer to God within our 12-steps. This may be a higher power of any other name, but it is simply an understanding that there exists a greater power than yourself.
God is a Christian term, applied to Christianic religions.
Also, this site does promote religion. Check out the "What about God?" thread.
Quote: If that be the case, you may be suffering from an illness which only a spiritual experience will conquer. To one who feels he is an atheist or agnostic such an experience seems impossible, but to continue as he is, means disaster, especially if he is an addicted gamer, of the hopeless variety. To be doomed to a life, where you are driven to play the games, or to live on a spiritual basis are not always easy alternatives to face.
But it isn't so difficult. About half our original fellowship were of exactly that type. At first some of us tried to avoid the issue, hoping against hope we were not true addicted gamers. But after a while we had to face the fact that we must find a spiritual basis of life or else. Perhaps it is going to be that way with you. But cheer up, something like half of us thought we were atheists or agnostics. Our experience shows that you need not be disconcerted.
So basically this says that you may be an atheist or agnostic, but unless you find God/religion/spirituality you will be doomed and never be rid of your addiction.
Well the thrust of my post was that posts in this forum for atheists and agnostics is filled with posts (mostly by cjn or whatever his name is, about how great god is, blah blah blah. Its understandable that a site like this will have many nutcases who feel the need to convert non-believers... but the fact that the mods let his posts stay in the forum for atheists and agnostics is what is so humorous) Help yourself, then worry about gamers

We are modeled after A.A.
That chapter - in What About God, is taken directly from the A.A. big book, with only the addiction changed - from alcoholics to game-aholics.
A.A. does not promote religion, and neither do we.
Having a "spiritual basis" in your life only helps you. Why is that a problem with you? Do you think you have to do it all yourself?

No, I don't have a problem with religion, or spirituality, or God. I hold many of these beliefs myself.
BUT, this forum is supposed to be for athesists and agnostics, is it not? These people don't believe this stuff. That is why they are atheists and agnostics.
That's all I'm pointing out.

I've been watching the recent disses on the game.. slowly coming out more and more.. I'm one of the many power gamers out there. Addicted? Sure.. everyones addicted to something.. whether it be sex, drinking, music, television.. eh.. my addictions gaming.
My guild ran across the movie clip today that mentioned this site.. we all came here to see what it was about only to find a bunch of non-sense about oh lord, save these peoples from the evils of the games!
My sympathies to the woman who lost her son, but he's 1 out of 400,000 users. You can't blame the game for what happened.. sure you can blame the other person playing the game..
Anyway, back to the topic.. I'm not a religous person.. my fiancee is.. and even she thinks the site is nonsense. Might I mention, she's not a gamer though.
Just as smoking.. if someone sees a reason to quit.. they can and do. Unfortunately, there aren't many alternatives to gaming.
If someones a christian, sure, let em go get "addicted" to going to church. Most likely if you pulled games like EverQuest off the shelves, all you'd have is more drunks and druggies. Needless to say, plenty of them play EQ too.. but wouldn't you rather them in playing a game then out driving around?
Please refer to our mission statement as to why we are "really" here.
Also, there is another post in the general discussion board that further explains it (it is tacked).
We are doing our best not to remove posts anywhere, so the general message is getting lost.
That is why we refer people with questions about why we are here - look at our Mission Statement.

I understand why your here.. but you also have to realize that with the board setup.. the posts.. the topics.. your opening up whole other can's.. and your going to get peoples opinions on them..
Whether it be flames.. or actual opinions.. it's all going to come up with each new post.
