A MUST READ - Trapped In a Game

http://www.kansan.com/stories/2008/may/06/trapped_game/?news[/url]

This is a VERY THOROUGH article written by a college student, Luke Morris.

He did an additional thing, which I appreciated.A He included some of the live interviews that he did for the article.

Please listen to the one with Dr. Stuart Gitlow, doctor of addiction psychiatry, and a member of the AMA Council of Science and Public Health. Dr. Gitlow does not believe that video game overuse constitutes an addiction.

I listened to this, and about THREW UP!A And THIS IS AN INTERVIEW WITH A PROFESSIONAL!
He does NOT GET IT!A He is so way off on his remarks.A I do not believe he has ever even met anyone who was addicted to a game.
Just because he has not seen it , does not mean it does not happen!

People do not play games until they are done - until they end, because today, THEY DON'T END!A And he is making "educated" remarks about gaming addiction?????A I don't think so.A He is talking off of the cuff and has no clue about which he speaks.A It is people like him, that will keep many people who really need help from getting it.

I ALWAYS SAID, IT IS NOT THE GAMER WHO IS THE PERSON WE NEED TO DEFEND OUR SELF AGAINST - THEY KNOW WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING, BECAUSE THEY ARE LIVING IT!A IT IS IGNORANT PEOPLE LIKE THIS GITLOW, WHO THINK THEY KNOW EVERYTHING, WHO HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE GAMING THEMSELVES OR SEEN IT HAPPEN WITH OTHERS.A YET THEY FEEL OBLIGED TO SHOOT THEIR MOUTH OFF ABOUT A SUBJECT OF WHICH THEY KNOW NOTHING - THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WE DEFEND OURSELVES AGAINST!A THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT SCARE THE HECK OUT OF ME!

And than, to compare it to Pin Ball! What an insult. I love Pin Ball. I never heard of ANYONE losing their family because of Pin Ball.

I know why I am so upset by Gitlow's interview. We are giving our lives to get help for people in desperate need of it. Gitlow says they don't need "that" much help. Why can't people get professional support for their gaming issues? Why is that a crime? Why won't these people, whose profession it is to heal people, help these lost souls?
