Does the religious part of http://www.olganon.org/

Does the religious part of www.olganon.org/ do more bad then good?

I think it do bad, I mean first when you enter the page you se those 12 step and people who ainAC/a,!a,,C/t religious is like what in hell is this and leave the page and miss all the outer stuff which is good. So I think you should move the religious stuff out from the start page.

Pamlor,

We are not trying to be religious.

The web designer did add some spiritual touches to the website.

I am working on getting the website updated, but haven't been able to as of yet....

So keep coming back, it will happen!

You suggestion has been noted. Thank you for sharing it.

Liz

Re: Does the religious part of http://www.olganon.org/

I was about to make a post about this issue as well... in fact I registered only for that purpose.A I am a recovering online gaming addict, or perhaps, I am just not as bad off as I once was.A I would play 8-15 hours a day.A Basically roll out of bed and game - all through college, all through law school.A I was a functioning addict, like many addicts, wherein I was always on the edge of falling apart but always pulled myself through.A I wanted to do nothing else than game.A My parents were paying for my education - so for 7 years all I did with very little interupption, was game.A I even tried to adjust my work schedule around my gaming.A It very nearly ruined my life, and it took several very serious incidents to even make me take notice and adjust my life. I saw an article in the paper today regarding classifying gaming as an addiction and I wholeheartedly agree.A I am a lawyer (somehow and barely), so this addicition affects people of all types and of many ages.A This site was mentioned in the article and I thought I would give it a look. I was immediately dismayed to see "God" this and "God" that on the home page of this site.A A number of online gamers are non-religious people (who would rather spend Sunday playing video games).A This site is supposed to be helping people like me and immediately I felt like I was being indoctrinated.A I think that if this site wants to really help the people it intends to help then it needs to be secular.A Remove the references to "God" and I think a lot of people seeking help will spend more than 30 seconds looking at this site. Whether or not the site is trying to be religious or not, it comes across that way, and I would have been immediately turned away if I didn't feel a need to post something about my feelings. I hope the best for the site and those who seek help from it.A Gaming addicition is very real. -Jeffrey 6/22/07

We have a large contingent of nonchristians within OLGA and OLG-Anon. While the steps come from AA, I think you will find that we have a very tolerant view towards what a higher power means. Perhaps you miight want to read some of the posts in the agnostic/atheist forum. Thanks for coming! :|

I am one of those non-Chroistians and not particularly religious persons. I am not the recovering addict myself but i still did not let the first page dissuade me. Agnostics (probably describes me best) and atheists can find support here too. I'm glad you came with the suggestion/question and not some of the rants I've seen since this story came out.

Yeah I had the same thing... the site isn't all about the 12 steps.
But perhaps you should write something before the 12 steps so people don't think it's all about it?
First time I logged in I though "Oh? you have to be religious? ah man..." then I started to look around the site and decided to register anyways.
First impressions are importent!
