Acceptance. When I am disturbed, it is because a person, place, thing, or situation is unacceptable to me. I find no serenity until I accept my life as being exactly the way it is meant to be. Nothing happens in God’s world by mistake.  Acknowledge the problem, but live the solution!

OH wonderful, thank you for

OH wonderful, thank you for this. Recovering for me goes beyond recovery tools. For me I need creativity, exploring, reading, and anything else that feeds me. Especially creativity.

Went to the art store the other day, bought a sketching tablet and some charcoal pencils. Haven't used them yet, but soon!

As a person who spends a lot

As a person who spends a lot of my time in the left-brian world, I find that I need some right-brain relief quite often. Ways I get it:

1. Driving (allows for sustained contemplation, which is very important for me, and hard to come by)

2. Gardening or laundry. It's so easy sometimes to just be present, and to be able to putter around randomly, which is the way my brain works, rather than have to follow a list or engage in specified tasks.

3. Every once in a while, I draw. It's very word-less, and calming for me. I don't have any talent at all, but my drawing went from the level of 3rd-grade stick-like figures to something reasonable (in terms of sketching real objects I can see) by reading just a few pages from one amazing book: Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. I recommend it to anyone who thinks they can't draw--I certainly couldn't before I looked at it, and now I can. At least enough for it to be a pleasant activity for me--which is the point.

I am a recovering computer game and gambling addict. My recovery birthday: On May 6, 2012 I quit games and began working a program of recovery through OLGA No computer games or slot games for me since December 12, 2012. No solitaire games with real cards since June 2013.

Oh, good! I figured there

Oh, good! I figured there might be some head scratching about what in the world these had to do with recovery, but the creative process feeds my soul! And recovery is all about feeding our souls - for me anyway.

I have a cabinet full of art supplies - I've always fancied myself an artist but haven't done much painting in too long -, but lately I've been enjoying sprucing up my little nest for my creative expression - I've redone my livingroom and den in the past couple of months on $500, Craigslist finds, and using stuff I already had. I walk from room to room and just admire my handiwork, soak up the good feelings.

And I've actually used Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, Dan. Back mmm...30 years ago?! Wow! Time to pull it out again.
